A.R.Rahman wins the Golden Globe for Slumdog Millionaire
A.R.Rahman has done it again. Arguably the best musician India has ever produced, Rahman, has won the Golden Globe award for the Best Music Composer for his amazing music for the Danny Boyle directed movie Slumdog Millionaire.
The film had music that was a true global blend - an afro-american-bollywood style music- and captured the essence of the story and made a good movie even better. The story of a “slumdog” becoming a millionaire through a Q&A contest and portraying the events of his life that made him learn the answers to the questions in the contest has captured the hearts of many and the slew of awards is just another indication of the movie’s success. A.R.Rahman’s music is a major highlight of the movie and works synergistically with some amazing direction from Danny Boyle.
The shy and down-to-earth composer who had said earlier that “he was surprised” when he was nominated for the award has done the whole country proud by winning the award, and it is not really surprising that it is the maestro who has become the first Indian to get a Golden Globe. The Indian presence at Golden Globe was even greater this year with King Khan presenting an award, another first.
Slumdog millionaire has also won the Best Screenplay award for Simon Beaufoy. The movie has become a phenomenon in the last two months and has won over 55 awards so far and is expected to fare well in the Academy Awards as well.
