Windows 7 vs Linux
Things have never been this shaky for Microsoft. Vista might have been a good, but still it got shun by the general computer users and even Windows users have been happy to stick with thier good old XP.With Apple making inroads into the OS market with its OS X and Linux getting more and more popular, Microsoft is facing a daunting task of preventing the seventh os from its stable from taking the Vista route. Windows 7 is really the OS that is going to define the future of the software major.
The beta has seen a leak and an official release and the reviews from the tech community has been favourable. Many feel that Windows 7 might really bring Microsoft out of the “Vista recession” that it faces. 7 has proved to be much better than both Vista and XP in terms and performance and it definitely looks more polished. Windows 7 will definitely be taken up in the high-end PC segment.
But the angle of Netbooks has to be taken into account. Windows 7 seems to be doing well with the lower spec Netbooks as well, but can it take on Linux (or even XP) when it comes to Netbooks? MaximumPC has done a good artice on this. The reasoning of economy, I think, is somewhat flawed and I personally think that Windows 7 will be making some great improvements in the Netbooks segment. Yeah a free OS is a good thing in a minimalistic notebook meant for net surfing, but Windows has an established user base and the ability to have the latest version of the Windows on the low-end notebook will make people to get Windows 7. The only question is whether Windows 7 can be as good as it is being portrayed on the netbooks. If it is, goodbye Linux. If not, hi Vista!
