Blizzard summons Diablo III
Diablo III was showcased in Paris at Blizzard’s 2008 Worldwide Invitational. The much-anticipated third installment of one of the most popular role-playing series is slated for release on PC and Mac.
Set 20 years after the events of Diablo II, the game returns to the ill-fated world of Sanctuary. The protective Worldstone that has shielded Sanctuary from danger is now broken and the player has the job of putting the pieces together using one of the five character classes
Beautiful new graphics, destructible environments, and a new playable character class–the diseased witch doctor–headline a host of changes in the sequel. Additionally, online multiplayer via Battle.net is planned. A lengthy trailer showcasing in-game footage provides a hearty look at the new features can be viewed at the game’s official website.
An enhanced quest system is stated to work in conjunction with a random level generator to ensure the game provides different experiences when replayed. A random encounter generator is planned to further increase this. Like other games in the series, Diablo III will use an isometric, overhead view to present the game to players. This is intended to make the game as simple to play as possible, with the developers stating that “if you can click a mouse, you can play Diablo”. News coming from the Developers’ stable also says that they are aiming to make the game run on a wide range of systems, and that DirectX 10 will not be required.
