Kuselan Music Review
Music Director: G.V.Prakash
Cinema, Cinema
Vocals: Shankar Mahadevan & chorus, Lyrics: Vaali
The song is a typical Rajini song patronizing the hero to the maximum extent possible and as usual Mahadevan has given a wonderful performance and makes us wonder if anybody other than him could sing it.There is a nice Violin interlude in the middle and is very pleasingly used. Vaali’s lyrics and Mahadevan’s voice do the trick and the song is a fitting tribute to Cinema as a whole.
Sollamma, Sollamma
Vocals: Hariharan, Sujatha, Ranjani, Pooja, Lyrics: P.Vijay
Hariharan and Sujatha have done a wonderful job and the song makes for a good listening. Clearly the best song of the album and has a short but wonderful piano interlude. Sujatha sings with lot of enthusiasm and Hariharan is as good as ever doing justice to good lyrics and pleasant music.
Om Zaarere
Vocals: Daler Mehndi, Chitra, Sadhana Sargam, Lyrics: Vaali
Daler has proven that he has the good voice that has made him so popular but has joined the list of singers who just kill tamil( recent addition being Himmesh Reshammiya). The song is peppy with rythmical beats and has punjaby touch to it. Sadhana Sargam and Chitra have done an excellent job and blend pretty well. The song, just like the album, could have been better.
Chaaral
Vocals: Shreya Ghosal & chorus, Lyrics: Dr.Kridhaya
Shreya Ghosal is clearly not used to her “munbe vaa” best. In fact this could be one of the bad songs of her’s, but not because of her singing but due to the poor music. Ghosal’s voice is the only saving grace for this song. This song wouldnt even have been reviewed upon if it werent for a Rajini movie. The lyrics are ok.
Perinba
Vocals: Kailash Kher, V.V.Prasanna, Lyrics: Yugabarathy
Now this is another song probably praising the hero and there seems to be an overdose of it that might just kill the album and the movie. Kailash seems to be tailor made for this song along with Prassana. The song has a very catchy tune but the alternating pitches tend to irritate.
The chance to tune the music for a Rajinikanth starrer would have made many a music directors weak in their knees. The 21 year old lad has done a decent job, given the enormous pressure and expectations, but one just hopes that the music was better. Kuselan is clearly not the best work in G.V.Prakash’s career.
