Sakkarakatti Music Review

With no other big names to boast of, Sakkarakatti is one movie that is wholly dependent on A.R.Rahman’s music to give it the initial push. That can be clearly seen with all the publicity posters for the movie highlighting Rahman more than the lead actors of the movie. And Rahman just seems to have proved why he is still the best music director in Tamil movie industry.
Chinnamma-Benny Dayal, Chinmayi
The song starts off with brilliant flute which, with Rahman’s latest releases, seems to have become his most favorite instrument. Benny Dayal, of Maduraikku Pogadhe di fame, is the highlight of the song, taking over the brilliant music and lyrics. He has rendered the song exceptionally well. Chinmayi’s voice lacks the force that Benny delivers but has done a good job nevertheless. The lyrics is good and goes along with the music. This song is bound to become a hit if picturized well and will also be liked by the rural masses.
I miss you da-Chinmayi, Indai Haza
Chinmayi makes up for what was lacking with her in Chinnamma with this song. The starting “Emine” by Chinmayi sets up the song in a brilliant way. Chinmayi has done a wonderful job and gives the desired effect in the song. Little bit of “Maiya Maiya” touch is felt in this song and Rahman works up his magic with the multi layered background instruments to give the song its uniqueness. Though this song is clearly not the best song of the album, its bound to become a hit with the Radio Stations and like many of Rahman’s music, will slowly but surely be liked by the listeners.
Elay-Krish, Naresh Iyer
Starts off with brilliant Guitar strumming thats seems so similar to that in “Roobaroo” but still manages to wow the listener. The violins and the guitars in the background are the main attraction of the song despite the scintillating performances by the singers. Naresh Iyer and Krish have sung very well and work in synergy but as said previously Rahman’s music is the clear winner in this song. This is a song that will be liked by the youngsters.
Marudhaani- Madhushree, A.R. Rahman, Hentry
Disappointment for all ARR fans hoping to catch a song fully sung by him. Rahman only hums at few points in the song but makes up for it with his music. Madhushree has sung with her usual charm and her pronunciation is very crisp and clear. Rahman’s humming is awesome and complements Madhushree’s singing. A very soothing and melodious number. A good picturization can only make it all the more better.
Naan Eppodhu- Reena Bharadwaj
Rahman once again proves his forte with melodies. Great percussion makes this song so pleasing to listen to. Once again its Rahman’s music that takes the song to the next level. The water sounds in the song are absolutely great and makes for a refreshing listening. Reena Bharadwaj’s voice is coarse at times and is not able to match with the exceptional music. The singer has given a good performance but maybe she was not suited for this song. This song will be slow in being taken up by the masses
Taxi Taxi-Benny Dayal,Blaze,Vivaine Chiax, Javed Ali
The song thats most likely to be the major hit of the album, especially with the youngsters. Afoot tapping number with good singing complemeting the music. Blaaze is absolutely exceptional in this song. Different variations in the music by Rahman give the song a great touch. Just listening to this song will make one stand up and dance.
A typical Rahman album that has a bit of everthing and enough experimentation to make the songs fresh. All the songs are exceptional and the good singing, lyrics and the exceptional music by the maestro make the album a clear hit among the masses. Some songs will be slow in being taken up, but all the songs will have us tapping our feet in due course of time. Shantanu can’t hope for a better start to his acting career and its on the director to do justice to the songs.
