Google’s tools for India’s 15th General Elections
India is the biggest democracy in the world and when such a democracy with over 700 million elligible voters goes to polls, it is a big moment indeed.
Google, in partnership with the Hindustan Times is bringing a comprehensive coverage of the 2008 Lok Sabha elections and is providing the voters with tools that allow them to be informed about the elections.
As stated in a blog post in the official Google blog, these tools enable the voters ( and others) across India to confirm their voter registration status, get details about their polling location, get election related news, videos and quotations, get the background details about the candidates and lots more.
One really great thing about this offering from Google and its partners is the ability to get the Development data about one’s constituency. Such data will do a lot in helping the voters make an informed choice. The ability to get the polling booth information, registration status and related stuffs, all at the same place makes this a great “tool for empowerment”. The site is available in English and Hindi and many more features will be added in the future, even beyond the general elections.
Want to get all the details about the forthcoming elections? You know where to go. And you know whom to thank for creating a generation of informed voters - Google!
