Recently Google added the color filter to the image search results that allows you to filter images that have a particular color predominantly. The results were good and it showed us that Google is concentrating on improving its image search capabilities.

Google labs has now come up with the Similar Images feature that allows the user to get the images similar to a particular image. For example, searching for Apple gives you the images related to Apple Inc and the fruit apple. By clicking on the “Similar Images” link below, say, the fruit’s image, you get images of more, well, apples. Searching for Jaguar gives you the pictures of the car and the animal. You can concentrate your search on one of those by using the Similar Images feature.

Of course, this is not just for cases where there are two or more possible interpretations. For example if you search for Nokia and get the image of a particular phone model, the Similar Images option will yield you images of that model.

The Similar Images option is nifty indeed and is bound to improve your image search results. Head on to Google labs and try out this new feature.
