Android Netbooks sooner than expected!
Microsoft’s worst nightmare might get real sooner than expected. the Redmond giant might be dominating the netbook market right now, with Windows XP accounting for 95% of the netbooks, but that might all change with the arrival of one OS named Android, the Linux based OS from, none other than, Google.
Primarily meant as an OS for mobile phones the Android has found some favour from manufacturers like HP who are hinting at the possibilty of an Android based netbooks sooner rather than later.
Skytone Transmission Technologies, based in China, has specified in its website that its Android based netbooks — dubbed the Alpha 680 — is just three months away from production. It seems that the company is working to sort out some compatibility issues and is hopeful that it will be done within three months. The new device is pretty low on power though, but that what netbooks are all about. The Alpha 680 will be powered by the ARM11 533 Mhz processor. It will come with a measly 128MB RAM expandable to 256MB, 1 or 4GB Solid State Drive, 7-inch LCD monitor with 800-by-480 resolution, two USB ports, an SD card slot, Wi-Fi, optional 3G antenna and a battery life of about 4 hours. It is expected to go at a sub-200$ prize point.
An Android netbook within a few months from now? Thats much quicker than many expected and might mean some serious trouble for Microsoft.
