Bing it on!
Bing is the name of yet another search engine, sorry, decision engine from Microsoft. But from the reviews it has been getting ( it is yet to be released to the general public), it seems to be more than another rebranding exercise ( MSN search, Live Search) from Microsoft.
The new “decision engine” had the working name of Kumo and many were sceptical about the choice of name. While Bing is also being called not so good a name, it has been much better received than Kumo. More importantly, when Google came out, everyone must have thought much worse about the name, which has now become synonymous to searching the web.
Bing seems to work great for product reviews, travel information etc. It provides more than just links to websites, but provides “ratings” collected and processed from review sites. Finding about hotels or restaurant or information on airline tickets are some of the things that it does way better than Google. Catch the reviews from Wired and CNET that offer greater insight into Bing.
The Bing.com is at the moment only a placeholder with a link to DecisionEngine.com where a video explains the functionalities. The site is expected to go live, pun intended, on the 3rd of June. People are already calling it Bing Is Not Google, time will tell whether its not Google because it is better or it is, sadly, worse.
