Live is now Bing. Bing is now live. If you werent living in a cave you would have understood what I am talking about here, what with the entire web buzzing about the new search engine from Microsoft - Bing. The search engine that was - Live - is now rechristened as Bing.

But a change of name is not the only new thing in Bing. It offers more than the failure of a Live and is expected to be competitive in front of Google, the SE Goliath.

Bing has been getting rave reviews from many technology reviewers who had early access to it. Now that it is available to the general public, the real test begins. My own feeling is that Bing is a great improvement over Live. It has many new features. It excels when it comes to airline fares, hotel reviews and product reviews. Its image and video search features are highly useful and has already found many takers. The snippet option that allows you to preview the sites you got in your results is nifty indeed.

But as many have humorously pointed out - Bing Is Not Google. It lags behind when it comes to the index size - something that Google has always boasted about - and the speed with which it can index breaking news etc. It lags way behind Google in these aspects, and despite a good interface and many new features, Bing will sizzle out if it doesnt improve in these areas. Bing is surely a good start, but it has miles to go to match Google. BING Is Not Google!
